WHAT CAN I DO AFTER I GRADUATE FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF LAW SCHOOL?
Department of Law School
The Law School offers a multi-directional and consolidated curriculum with a wide range of elective courses that enable focusing on different fields. Elective courses also enable students to learn up-to-date and detailed information about prominent fields of study.
Core courses, on the other hand, provide the basic infrastructure for an extensive education ranging from social sciences to fundamental sciences based on the analytical thinking principles that form the cornerstone of civilized and developed legal order.
The Faculty of Law has cooperative projects with many national and international organizations such as the European Council, and it contributes to training and educational programs, to those particularly on human rights and gender studies, by providing expertise.
THE DEPARTMENT OF LAW FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF AN ACADEMIC:
Assistant Professor Zeynep Ayata,
Faculty Member of the Law School
Koç University’s Law School is Turkey’s only law school which is a member of the Law Schools Global League. Comprised of 25 law faculties from around the world, the Law Schools Global League encourages faculty members to do comparative and global law research. In addition to the business and working group, a total of four working groups are active in the fields of human rights, anti-corruption, and law and technology as part of the League, and I have been chairing these groups for a year. Researchers from different countries and organizations do cooperative research and publish them together within this framework. In addition to academic research, the Law Schools Global League aims to set standards for legal education. Our students participate in summer schools held in a different country each year, where they are exposed to different perspectives and learn more about global problems.
THE DEPARTMENT OF LAW FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF A GRADUATE:
Can Talaz,
Law School 2011 Graduate
After my graduation, I started to work at the Hergüner Bilgen Özeke Attorney Partnership with the goal of seeing different aspects of the law and the profession. Once I found out which fields and practices I was interested in, I started my graduate studies at Columbia Law School to improve my knowledge regarding international commercial arbitration and World Trade Organization law. After taking courses on both arbitration and WTO law there, I worked together with Judge Delissa Ridgway on the US International Tribunal of Commerce on cases of defense instruments in international trade policies.
Afterwards, I joined the World Trade Organization’s Body for Dispute Settlements (Appellate Body) and am currently working there on cases to solve disputes between member countries. I believe that it’s useful to make short-term and long-term plans for your career, even though sometimes these plans don’t work out. Some of your plans do come true, and you should always be in a position where you can switch to an alternative or take advantage of an opportunity.
