THE DEPARTMENT OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF AN ACADEMIC:
Prof. Dr. Ayşegül Özsomer, Faculty Member of the Department of Business Administration
For creativity and innovation, it is very important to have an interdisciplinary approach and go beyond what’s known. Learning is only possible when we encounter new and different things. When we are surrounded by already-known paradigms and methods, our learning process slows down and even stops. An interdisciplinary approach ensures that we come across new things which is critical for innovation. For 15 years, I have had the opportunity under the Turquality Program to meet the managing staff of many medium- and large-scale firms as a faculty member of the Department of Business Administration. I’ve had the opportunity to observe how managers of different departments take different approaches to the same problems. In addition to these observations, I can say, beginning with my studies and research, that an interdisciplinary approach is quite important to attract and retain new customers in today’s competitive conditions.
THE DEPARTMENT OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF A GRADUATE:
Pelin Karaturhan, 2018 Double Major Program Graduate from the Department Business Administration and Media & Visual Arts
As soon as I walked through the door, Koç University provided me with many opportunities. I started in the Department of International Relations on a full scholarship, and I took courses from other departments and discovered my fields of interest. I transferred to the Department of Business Administration and started to study Media and Visual Arts at the same time through the double major program. I also completed the design certificate program. I joined the Work-Study program with faculty members from both departments and explored more of my interests. I continued my education at IE University, Madrid through the Erasmus+ program for a semester. I visited New York as a voluntary intern to support a social responsibility project through the Career Center. I took part in many projects together with other KU volunteers. Now that I’m about to leave my school which encouraged me to learn, question, meet new people, listen to new stories and discover the world and myself, I can proudly say that I am so glad I studied at Koç University.
