WHAT CAN I DO AFTER I GRADUATE FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTER ENGINEERING?
Department of Computer Engineering
Computer Engineering students receive a comprehensive education on algorithms and data structures, the mathematical structure of computer sciences, computer architecture and communication systems, object-based systems and programming languages, graphics and visualization, software engineering, signal processing and circuit analysis, digital system design, and microprocessors. They can specialize in distributed parallel computing and concurrent systems, smart systems, multimedia networks, bioinformatics, or software engineering by taking major related and free elective courses.
THE DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTER ENGINEERING FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF AN ACADEMIC:
Dr. Alptekin Küpçü, Faculty Member in the Department of Computer Engineering
Consider how we store our folders in the cloud, as most of us do today. Cloud systems, unfortunately, do not guarantee the integrity of our data. In other words, they do not allow us to check whether our data has been changed or deleted, or whether its kept on the server exactly as we put it. To address this, we developed the most efficient, and the world’s first, solution for dynamic or changeable data. But when the topic is data secrecy, encryption is the most logical solution. Yet this might result in a serious problem of usability. Let’s assume that we need to access a folder we keep on Google, but we can’t remember the folder’s name. We want to search for folders whose name includes “Koç University”. The ideal way to do this is a Google search (if there is no encryption, it would be the valid system) and download only the relevant folders. However, it is impossible for Google to perform this search if we encrypt our folders. We solved this problem, so our encryption method allows searching and protects confidential data without losing efficiency.
THE DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTER ENGINEERING FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF A GRADUATE:
Kaan Varnalı, 2004 Graduate from the Department of Computer Engineering
I am one of the first proud graduates of Koç University’s Engineering Faculty. Back then, we were only 6 students. No one had beaten a path for us, and we didn’t have anyone to ask for advice. Those days were difficult. When I look back now though, I’m so glad that I studied computer engineering. In my professional career, I have never coded or developed any software, but I have always solved problems. One after another, I have moved forward. I’ve lectured and managed research projects. I’ve provided consultancy services to companies of various sizes in different industries. I believe there is no problem a good engineering faculty graduate cannot solve. I am lucky, because I graduated from a good engineering faculty.
